Approximately 25,000 homes in Queensland's southeast were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, producing powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Impact

Homeowners reported giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts announced that various areas across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Response teams were working to restore electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Storm Challenges

Emergency response teams handled 598 calls for help across the region, primarily for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, specifically given the current weather patterns.
