Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.

Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the main straight.

The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
