Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
